Cyberbullying, The Hub, and junk food

By Jen Eyer

Some headlines in the news recently:

Study finds US children get 40% of their calories from junk food: "According to researchers, children are becoming a generation of fast food junkies who get almost half their daily energy intake from the so called `empty calorie' foods like soda and pizza, with little to no nutritional value."

New kids' TV channel raises product-placement concerns: "The Hub is already in the crosshairs of media watchdogs who fear the network's programming, with shows based on toy lines G.I. Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony and Pound Puppies, amounts to little more than plugs for Hasbro products."

Parents should take role to stop cyberbullying: "Cyberbullying is more common than you think and the only reason kids do it is because they can get away with it. The only reason they can get away with it is because their online communities are largely unsupervised, with no rules, expectations or the sort of teaching that, clearly, some kids need."
