Make family summer fun at the drive-in theater
Families can enjoy movies under the stars all summer long at the Compuware Drive In Theatres, now through Sept. 5.
Admit it: Now that school is out for the summer you are looking for fun things for the family to do. Maybe new family activities and experiences. Maybe old favorites. No matter which though, it has got to be something great to do for the entire family, and it has got to NOT break the bank! So how about taking the family to a drive-in theater?
I have many fond memories of my parents taking my brother and I to the drive-in and very vividly remember seeing "Grease" on the big screen (oops aging myself here!). As a teen I even got to head to the drive-in theater in Farmington for movies. And each summer I try to take the kids to at least one show under the stars.
Unfortunately there aren't many true drive-in theaters left, however many drive-ins are emerging from the parking lots of otherwise unoccupied event venues. Fortunately for Ann Arbor area families there is one within a short 20-minute drive.
At the Compuware Arena in Plymouth, movies can be seen under the stars now through Sept. 5, five days a week. That's right, any night parents can be found enjoying a game of Frisbee and a picnic basket before the show on the big screen. Prices are reasonable with children younger than 3 free and children ages 4-12 costing only $5 each. There are also many special movie packages for families throughout the week including Dinner and a Movie Thursdays and Wednesday $5 Night.
Check it out: Should make for lasting family memories for years to come!
