Parent Buzz: Links for 8-20-09

By Jen Eyer

Childhood rite under fire: Parents across the country are irate at ice cream truck drivers who hover at parks and on neighborhood streets — especially right before dinner. (NYT: When Parents Scream Against Ice Cream)

Get the Twinkies out of the house: A new study says restricting access to unhealthy snacks makes them more attractive to kids — especially ones with low self-control. A better way? Don't bring unhealthy snacks into the house in the first place. (MedicineNet: Restrictive Diet for Kids May Backfire)

Babes on Facebook: Columnist Joel Stein had hit upon a funny way to post photos of his three-month-old son, but it all ended when the Facebook police shut down little Lazlo Stein's page. (TIME: Why Does Facebook Hate Babies?)

Homework help: Family Fun has a great, low-cost idea for making a portable homework station that can help kids stay organized and focused. (Family Fun: Homework Central: A fold-up workstation transforms the kitchen table into a kid-friendly study hall)

I love the foldable homework station, saw it in my issue of Family Fun just last week. My kids aren't old enough to need it yet, but I will definetly tuck that little tid-bit away for later...
