This week's free holiday fun: Crafts, sing-a-longs and tree lighting events

By Tammy Mayrend

It's not like most of us need more to do during the busy holiday season, but in the event that you do want to do something with the family, the chances are pretty good that you'd want to find some activity or event on a budget. Here are a few great free family activities happening this week to check out:

Monday is a fun with singing all around. Listen to the singers making a lovely sound. The Messiah Sing-a-long in Saline at the Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center at Saline High School (1300 Campus Parkway, Saline) is a free concert tonight at 8 p.m. Singers can join into the fun as well with rehearsal beginning at 6:30 p.m. (There is a $5 participation fee as well. Donations at the door are also welcome!.

Don't be blue on Tuesday when the snowflurries fly. You can make a giant snowflake, so be sure to stop on by! Kids of all ages can create their own 3-D snowflakes from 7-9 p.m. at the Ypsilanti District Library, Whittaker Road branch (5577 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti).

Teens and adults get crafty Wednesday night as well. Carve a design in linoleum, printing cards and letters making the night swell. The block printing workshop is geared for teens in grade six and higher and adults. Create something to hang on your wall, or perhaps design a holiday card. Bring something to print on; otherwise all tools are supplied. This event runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Ann Arbor District Library Pittsfield branch (2359 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor).

See the lovely tree on Thursday, glowing nice and bright. Be sure to get there early to see the pretty tree light! Remember your loved ones this season with the Tree of Love sponsored by the St. Joseph Mercy Saline Hospital (400 Russell Street, Saline) Auxiliary. The tree lighting ceremony is at 4 p.m. sharp!

There's more and more to do each day, and the weekend will swiftly come. So be sure to check back later this week for activities, events and much more family fun!
