Pasek and Paul's 'A Christmas Story: The Musical' is headed to Broadway

Playbill.com has reported that "A Christmas Story, The Musical!" which features original music and lyrics by U-M grad songwriting team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, will have a limited engagement holiday run on Broadway later this year.

Based on the cult classic movie, "A Christmas Story" arises from a series of Jean Shepard stories about growing up in Indiana in the 1930s. The lead character, Ralphie, wants nothing in the world so much as a Red Ryder BB gun, and he's hoping Santa will make his wish come true. But in the meantime, he has to suffer the indignities and frustrations of childhood at home and at school.

The Broadway production's performances are scheduled November 6-December 30 (opening night is November 19). No casting has yet been announced, and an open audition for young actors is being held in New York City on June 16.
