There’s really no curtain to go up at the West Park Band Shell, not that it matters much to Ann Arbor’s Penny Seats Theatre Company, which will open its now-annual summer show there Thursday night.

This year’s production is “Little Me,” a Broadway musical written by Neil Simon, Cy Coleman, and Carolyn Leigh. The show is known for Sid Caesar performing multiple roles in the original 1960s production, a feat later repeated by Martin Short in the 1990s. In Ann Arbor, Roy Sexton will undertake the challenge.

“I hope I can bottle at least an ounce of (Caeser’s) manic energy in this production,” said Sexton.

“Little Me” tells the story of Belle, a woman who “made it” from the other side of the tracks to a place of wealth, honor and social position. As she looks back over her life while preparing her memoir, she recalls her various adventures on her climb up the ladder. Penny Seats’ co-founder Lauren London portrays the younger Belle, with Sarah Faix as older Belle.

Shannon McNutt directs, wand Rebecca Biber will lead a live band onstage.

Penny Seats encourage folks to make an evening out of coming to the show. Grounds will open at West Park at 5:30 p.m. each night, with performances at 7 p.m. Dinner packages are available.
