Purple Rose Theatre offers intimate performance of A. R. Gurney's 'Ancestral Voices' as fundraiser
Sunday, November 14, The Purple Rose Theatre Company will perform the acclaimed play, "Ancestral Voices," by A. R. Gurney in the Chelsea home of Ann and Michael Feeney.
Beginning at 6 p.m., this benefit evening will feature wine, a strolling supper, cocktails, music, merriment, camaraderie, and a performance by the Purple Rose Thespians. The Thespians were created to provide unique, one-of-a-kind performances in intimate settings for adventurous, inquisitive audiences. Set just before and into the World War II years, "Voices" focuses on the grandparents, parents, and son of a wealthy Buffalo, New York family. Beginning with the perspective of an 8 year old, then as a teenager, and finally as a grown man, the son narrates a tale of upheaval when his grandmother leaves his grandfather for another man. This is what reviewers had to say: “If family is the key theme of American drama, 'Ancestral Voices' is a beautiful work in that great tradition. This is a magical play, not a mere exercise in uncritical nostalgia, but a nuanced reminiscence.” - Donald Lyons, New York Post. “Gurney's genteel and gently comic 'Ancestral Voices' is as elegantly faceted as a marquise diamond.” - Peter Marks, New York Times.
Space is limited to 20 couples. Tickets are $200 per person ($120 of this amount is tax deductible). For reservations, call 734-433-7782 or send an e-mail message to ReachUs@purplerosetheatre.org. Funds raised from this benefit will support The Purple Rose Theatre Company.
