Join us on the east side of town at First United Methodist Church Green Wood on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. for a delightful presentation of popular classics from times gone by. Under the leadership of conductor Jerry Robbins (conductor of the Washtenaw Community Concert Band) the program will be performed by the 20-piece Ypsilanti "Town Band" wind ensemble. Dressed in period costume and using period-appropriate instruments, this talented group of musicians will entertain you with well known popular songs and classical compositions from the turn of the last century.
Enjoy the seasonal changes of a fall afternoon while listening to local musicians perform such classics as Alexander's Ragtime Band (1911), I Want a Girl (1911), By the Light of the Silvery Moon (1909), Hello My Baby (1899), You're a Grand Old Flag (1906) and many more.
Through the beauty, artistry, and inspiration of the arts, First United Methodist Church is pleased to present a rich array of talent in praise to the greater glory of God. Concerts take place in both our downtown and Green Wood locations.
Everyone is invited to attend events that are part of three new 2010-2011 concert series: the inspiring “First Downtown Series”, the intimate “Green Wood Chamber Music Series”, and the casual “First Brown Bag Series.”
This and other Green Wood Chamber Music series concerts are free. A free-will offering will be taken to support these local musicians. A reception will follow.
First United Methodist Church Green Wood is located at 1001 Green Road, one mile south of Plymouth Rd. The Washtenaw Community Band website includes information on the Town Band and other upcoming concerts.
