Richard Gere filming in downtown Ann Arbor

Actor Richard Gere was spotted this morning standing at the corner of Main and Liberty streets, just outside Starbucks. He was working with a film crew that was set up in the area.
It had been announced that Gere's movie "The Double" —Â also starring Martin Sheen and Topher Grace —Â would shoot in the Detroit area starting this week.
By noon, the crew had left the area.
According to Variety, the movie is about a retired CIA agent who teams with a young partner to solve the murder of a senator. The Internet Movie Data Base says the director is Michael Brandt; this is his first listed credit as director, although he has written a number of successful screenplays including 2007's "3:10 to Yuma" and 2008's "Wanted."

They filmed last evening at Veterans Park off of Dexter Road. They had a boys baseball game being played with Richard Gere in the bleachers. They started setting up late afternoon and had a huge crane with a light to create moonlight. There were semi-trucks and trailers and tents (rain) all over. Richard Gere had a double who fooled us for awhile. They finally finished up between 1 and 2am.

As much time as I have spent on that corner, the film crew had to come by when I was in bed. Timing is every... no it's your material, audience?, delivery?, no it's timing! Spooner

I was driving West on Liberty and traffic stopped because of the light at Fourth. I look to my left and there is Richard Gere sitting in a car. He looked over but I was too stunned to say or do anything!! :=) He's still looking good.

I also spotted him. Stepping out of a black BMW in front of Kilwin's, as they were shooting a scene.
