I'm sorry but I put Mr. Altman, who was a capable director, into the same excessively overrated camp as Bob Dylan and Mario Andretti. People talk of their super greatness then can only give few and non-specific examples. Its a fame that grows in excess based on a continuing feedback loop of perceived fame. Just listen to Dylan sing within the last 25+ years and ask yourself...

Also, I had Frank Beaver as a professor when I attended U-M, so I know he'll have incredible insight and information along with those who worked with Altman directly. I don't know, I guess I just get giddy about director-related symposiums.

I find it hilarious that my first Altman movie was "Popeye." I loved it. I was a kid, don't judge!

Good news for UM and for Ann Arbor. Hatcher has some great holdings.

I recall Robert Altman's semester as visiting artist at U of M. As well as shooting "Secret Honor", he also staged Stravinsky's opera, "A Rake's Progress". I was fortunate to be in the audience. It was exceptional, set design, costumes, a visual tour de force. The Power Center was a special place that evening.
