In what’s being called a longstanding “open secret” in Hollywood, actress Sara Gilbert - of “Roseanne” and “Big Bang Theory” fame - has officially outed herself as a lesbian. The news comes on the heels of CBS unveiling a new daytime show called “The Talk,” which will feature Gilbert with Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, Marissa Jaret Winokur, and Julie Chen, and focus on motherhood and parenting.

On one early episode, Osbourne reportedly had trouble coming up with anything about rocker hubby Ozzy Osbourbe that annoys her. I’m sure others could offer suggestions.

MOVIES

* The Detroit Free Press film/theater critic John Monaghan gave the film “Blank Generation,” having a rare screening tonight at the Michigan Theater, four stars.

* At Monday night's Hollywood premiere of “Flipped” - a Rob Reiner-directed feature film shot largely in the Ann Arbor area in 2009 - Entertainment Tonight talked to the movie's stars about their first loves.

Also, “Flipped” will have a special screening in Indianapolis next week, with several stars in attendance, but the film won’t open nationally until August 27.

* Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly pulled out of a movie project involving Mel Gibson, in the wake of … I don't really need to finish this sentence, do I?

MUSIC

* Southfield native Mike Posner, who’s hit “Cooler Than Me” is still skyrocketing in popularity, is now performing with the Warped Tour and has shared his experiences with The Detroit News.

* Forget arenas - Kanye West’s preferred performance venue of late is the offices of social networking sites. Earlier this week, videos surfaced of West performing new material acapella at Facebook headquarters, and now, it seems he also paid a visit to Twitter’s main office, and quickly accumulated tens of thousands of followers.

* In the "huh?" category, a woman in the Netherlands is claiming to be the love child of Michael Jackson and Diana Ross’ older sister, Barbara Ross-Lee - a respected physician who says she never even met Michael.

TELEVISION

* “Project Runway” kicks off its eighth season tonight at 9 p.m. on Lifetime - huzzah! - and that tall German lady who hosts the show, Heidi Klum, offered seven reasons to tune into this season, including a new 90 minute format that shows more of the judges’ deliberations; an “audition” challenge, wherein someone gets eliminated before the designers move in together; and a Kenley-like contestant who can’t stop offering her opinions. Yes, please!

Unfortunately, early reviews suggest that more “Runway” may not mean better “Runway,” and The New York Daily News rated the new season opener two stars. I just went from happy to sad in about two minutes.

* Isiah Mustafa, the star of the tongue-in-cheek Old Spice campaign that went viral online, has landed a role as a cop in the upcoming show “Horrible Bosses,” as well as a gig as a CIA man in “Chuck.” I guess smelling manly really is the pathway to success.

* There’s much speculation and handwringing over who might next fill a chair on “American Idol”’s panel of judges, and the latest rumored candidate is Jessica Simpson - but you can rule out Elton John and Justin Timberlake. So much for bringing sexy back to "Idol."

* Curious about the new CBS take on the classic series “Hawaii Five-O”? ABC News offers this preview of the show, which will premiere this fall.

THEATER

* The Broadway show that paired Twyla Tharp’s choreography with Frank Sinatra's songs, “Come Fly With Me,” will close on Sunday, September 5.

BOOKS

* J. K. Rowling is trying to get a plagiarism claim dismissed. Oh, if only she could just wave a wand from Ollivander’s and make it all disappear.

* Skip Pritchard, CEO of Ingram Book Company, explains why he’s embracing e-readers while remaining confident that books are here to stay. Let’s hope so.

ART

* Leonard Nimoy - that’s right, Mr. Spock - is going where he hasn't gone before by having his photograph project, “Secret Selves,” featured at a major Massachusetts museum called Mass MoCA. Logical? See for yourself.
