KCH benefit show to focus on 'crazy' songs by Sondheim
Now here's an idea whose time has come: Kerrytown Concert House on Sunday evening will host a concert of Stephen Sondheim songs written for some of his more out-there characters. And it's a benefit for Gulf Shore relief efforts to boot.
"You Could Drive a Person Crazy: Crazy Songs for Crazy Times" features four students from the University of Michigan's acclaimed musical-theater program.
Publicity material for the concert says it will feature songs "written for some of his most neurotic and crazy characters," including favorites like “Getting Married Today” from "Company" and “Everybody Says Don’t” from "Anyone Can Whistle," as well as some lesser-known works.
Featured performers are Allison McDowell, mezzo soprano; Rachel Bahler, alto; Tyler Brunsman, tenor; and Tyler Jones, tenor.
All proceeds, as well as donations that will be taken at the show, will go toward Gulf Shore relief efforts through the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Admission is $15 general admission; $10 students. Information or reservations: 734-769-2999 or kch@kerrytown.com. The concert house is located at 415 N. Fourth Ave., just across from the Ann Arbor Farmers Market.

mental illness is not funny calling it crazy just furthers the stigam. that's just nuts that in this day and age they would get away calling it 'music for crazy people'.
