Sukkah Design Competition coming to Liberty Square Plaza

After a year of planning, the Sukkah Arbor Team announces the Sukkah Design Competition’s main event. Six finalists were selected, with winning entries coming from Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Michigan.

A sukkah is a temporary hut, constructed for the week-long Jewish festival of Sukkot. It's topped with branches and often decorated with autumnal or harvest themes, intended to commemorate the time that God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness they inhabited after they were freed from slavery in Egypt.

The designs can be seen being built and displayed in Liberty Square Plaza, at the corner of Liberty and Division, on Sept. 23 from noon to 6 p.m. Public voting will help decide the winning Sukkah, with a $2,000 prize going to the winner.
