An introduction to the underbelly of the arts (and to me)

"Hi."

"I'm Jeremy. How are you?"

As you may have been able to surmise, I'm going to be writing for AnnArbor.com, blogging about the amazing wealth of music and culture in our beloved community. It is my sincere hope to bring a little bit of light on the underbelly of the arts scene, and point out some amazing things happening around here that might otherwise be missed.

With that, here's a bit about me, so you have an idea about who I am.

I've been a resident of Ann Arbor, MI for the past 11 years or so, coming to the area from Traverse City to attend the University of Michigan as an undergraduate. While at Michigan, I received a BA in Political Science and Music, and stayed in town to pursue a job in the music industry with one of Ann Arbor's home grown creative imprints: avant-pop label, publishing company, and art-house, Ghostly International. I currently serve as Ghostly's Director of Licensing and Publishing. I guess I can't get enough of music, as I am also co-owner of my own label (alongside my brother and a close friend), Quite Scientific Records. Indeed, I'm one of those "came to Ann Arbor for school, and never managed to make it back out" types, and I'm proud of it.

When I'm not up to my ears in music, I've had a tendency to take a liking to politics. I was a staff member to and volunteer for President Barack Obama's campaign in southeast and northern Michigan, was volunteer staff for Sen. John Kerry's and Vice President Al Gore's presidential campaigns and an intern for Gov. Jim Blanchard's most recent campaign for Governor. I currently serve as the Communications Director of the Michigan Democratic Party's Youth Caucus, as well. I'll bet you can't guess which side of the ticket I vote for? But hey, I'm involved the Arts, right?

I currently reside in south Ann Arbor, in the Bryant-Pattengill East neighborhood, after moving from just north of downtown.

If there's anything you think I should cover or that I've managed to miss, please don't hesitate to let me know, either on Twitter, where I'm @jeremypeters or by emailing me.
