In which I introduce myself and lay bare my shortcomings.

By Jordan Miller

Hi!

I’m Jordan, and I’m going to be blogging for The Deuce.

MillerJordan

In my previous life I had a blog, but I hate the word blog, so I called it a website. I still hate the word blog. Oof. And blogger. Yikes.

Okay, so I’m officially not blogging for the Deuce. What I’m officially doing is writing on a regular basis about life, culture and style in Ann Arbor for this website.

There. That’s better.

I wanted to introduce myself because I figure that you’ll be hearing a lot from me (if you choose to read this as often as I will write, in which case you’re probably either my relative, a former boyfriend, or Tom Gantert).

I moved here when I was nine. I’m 28 now. So not born, but raised. Until last September I was a reporter at the Ann Arbor News. I covered Ypsilanti and, later, Ann Arbor culture, news and entertainment. One reader sent an E-mail to the publisher and editors calling me immature and obnoxious, and another person wrote to inform me that I should be replaced by a robot, who would ostensibly do a better job. For some reason AnnArbor.com still hired me.

I’ve also worked in town as a bartender, waitress, toy store manager, freelance radio producer, advertising copywriter, personal assistant, and marketing consultant.

There’s a lot about Ann Arbor that I like. Right now, because it’s summer, this includes: Brightly colored drinks on the patio of the Parthenon, Blue Karaoke, the Kiwanis sale, swimming at Pickerel Lake (so it’s not officially Ann Arbor, but close enough), shopping for books at the ReUse Center, eating oysters at the Monahan’s counter in Kerrytown, and driving on Huron River Drive with the windows open.

Feel free to comment or E-mail if you have something you want to hear about, or talk about, or if you want to suggest a mechanical replacement for my job. It’s nice to meet you.

The lady who runs the place is amazing. A couple of years ago she dyed her dog pink. And she always gets the party going by starting you off with ABBA's "Dancing Queen" and instructing you to celebrate.

Hey! Anyone who loves Blue Karaoke is a friend of mine.

Oh, man! Don't make that public knowledge. I need this gig.

Nicely done on the picture. Furthermore, we have a variety of robots that could do many/all aspects of your job down at LSRS&R. Let me know if you want to schedule an appt.
