Spotted on the streets
My 'Spotted on the Streets' October fashionista is the fabulous Nani O.
I spotted Nani in Depot Town and just knew right away she was my October fashion find. She is wearing an adorable 1950's halter top style red and white polka dotted cotton dress; a black satin sash belt; a pale pink cashmere cardigan; black patent leather flats and a red wool pillbox hat.She informed me that her dress was made by a local seamstress, and the rest of her outfit was vintage! What great finds and way to put together an amazing outfit. She really made these clothes come to life. Nani is an opera singer from Ypsilanti.
Her unique style, which I thought was kind of French mixed with 1950s, inspired me to think about all the great vintage shops in the area. Some of my favorites in Ann Arbor are The Getup (which seriously has the BEST collection of vintage dresses I have ever seen anywhere) and Star Vintage.
If you can venture out a bit, Mother Fletchers in Ferndale (which has been there for YEARS) is also fantastic, as is Lost and Found Vintage in Royal Oak.
Going vintage is kind of like embarking on a self full-filling treasure hunt. Whenever I find something amazing it's like wow, hey, look, it's a little piece of me! I HAVE to have this. Not quite the same as department store shopping where the decisions are sometimes more like "Wow, on sale for 75% off? I'm sure i'll wear this basic t-shirt sometime. Might as well get it."Thanks Nani for the inspiration and allowing me to snap your photo.
