Tickets go on sale Friday, August 7 at 10 a.m. for the local "Playing For Change" tour date, Nov. 2 at The Ark. Tickets will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets, The Ark box office, Herb David Guitar Studio (302 E. Liberty), online at Ticketmaster, and at the Michigan Union Ticket Office, 734.763.TKTS. To charge by phone, call 800.745.3000.

Multimedia music project "Playing For Change" was created by Grammy-winning producer/engineer/filmmaker Mark Johnson in 2004 with the self-described goal to "inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music." Using a mobile recording studio, Johnson and his team traveled around the country — and later, around the world — capturing global musicians' interpretations of well-known songs of hope and strength, like "Stand By Me" and "A Change Is Gonna Come." By 2009, the videos, CD, and documentary bubbled over to become a cultural phenomenon.

Watch a compilation of "Stand By Me" as performed by several artists:

A 57-minute version of the documentary "Playing For Change: Peace Through Music" is airing nationwide on PBS throughout August. Air times are listed at the PBS website. Plus, Mark Johnson appears on PBS' "Tavis Smiley Show" and Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" (which also features a performance by New Orleans-based blueman Grandpa Elliott and PFC band members) on August 10 and 12, respectively.

I have this CD and love it. Wonder how they'll do the concert, since the CD was recorded all over the globe?

Agreed! It would also be neat if there was info about a local contact. Say one was curious about talking to someone about playing their songs of hope at such an event. Yep that would help the local music scene and this online paper and the world. Peace

Shouldn't an article with "tour date" in it's headline include the tour date information in it's story? I enjoy Playing for Change and would be interested in getting tickets, but I'll have to go somewhere else to find this information.
