Friday's Top of the Park: Music after work with Annie Capps Band, Groove Spoon, Macpodz, DJ after dark

Here's an introduction to the acts appearing Friday, July 9 at Top of the Park — the Ann Arbor Summer Festival's free, outdoor component, held outside the Rackham Building, on East Washington Street at Ingalls Mall.

The KidZone Tent is open from 5-8 p.m.

In a change this year, Top of the Park music on Friday starts at 5 p.m., and festival organizers are hoping that downtown employees might stop by after work.

Annie Capps Band Rackham Stage, 5 p.m.

Drawing on three decades of performing and learning, Annie Capps is a singer-songwriter and electric guitarist who writes jazz-tinged folk-rock songs with a strong personal. A fearless Michigan road warrior with half a dozen Detroit Music Award nominations to her credit, Annie Capps is on the forefront of Michigan songwriting's new wave. She is accompanied by her husband, guitarist Rod Capps.

Groove Spoon Rackham Stage, 6:30 p.m.

Groove Spoon is a 10-piece funk, jazz, and soul band that performs around Ann Arbor. Along with their tight arrangements, their joy-filled performances bring audiences to their feet. Their following has been growing from an original loyal base of theatre and musical theatre fans as word about them gets around.

They'll eat them, but the don't really dig them.Actually, a third member has now admitted that he doesn't really like sweet potatoes. The Macpodz Rackham Stage, 8:30 p.m.

Returning to the Top of the Park stage for a high-energy fusion party that everyone can enjoy, this Ann Arbor quintet will get you on your feet in no time. The Macpodz specialize in an eclectic and highly danceable mix of rock, jazz, funk, and fusion that the band calls "disco bebop.”

Performing since: late 2006 Home base: Ann Arbor Members: Brennan Andes, Jesse Clayton, Ross Huff, Griffin Bastian, Nick Ayers Pre-show ritual: Speeding. Favorite road food: Coffee. Desert island disc: City Noises CD. Best thing about Ann Arbor: Our families.

DJ Seek Selekta The Grove, 10:30 p.m.

Born in LA, grown in the Czech Republic, Seek Selekta drops durrrty dubstep 'n drums that can’t be found anywhere else in the universe.

Performing since: I popped out and started screaming. (I love you Mom and Dad). Home base: Ann Arbor for the past six years, thank you for having me, it's been incredible. Style of music: A dirty blend of dubstep, hip hop and kuduro. Pre-show ritual: My favorite: candles and Wolfie serenading me on acoustic guitar. Don't know who Wolfie is? Go to the Blind Pig, ask for Wolfie, give him a hug. If you play music, hug him again. Favorite road food: Subway sandwich — all the veggies please, no meat, no cheese, and yellow mustard. Thank you!
