Fess Parker dies; U-M musical takes off; Scythian video; and more

Fess Parker

Fess Parker, best known as TV's "Davy Crockett," has died at age 85. The Los Angeles Times' All the Rage blog salutes the actor, while another LA Times blog, The Envelope, notes that Parker never won an Emmy.

THEATER

• An original musical born at the University of Michigan — and with a decidedly adult and off-color title and subject matter, so be warned if you click on this — has gained some national fame through a cast recording.

Dame Edna and Michael Feinstein together on stage? How can it miss? New York Times critic Ben Brantley finds that the result, a new Broadway show called "All About Me," doesn't quite work.

TELEVISION

• The Associated Press previews "Life," the ambitious 11-part series that starts Sunday on the Discovery Channel.
