University of Michigan's Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) is trying something new with its summer film series this year: instead of running a group of films on consecutive Fridays in July and August, as it has previously done, CJS will now screen five films over the course of a weekend in June.

This year, CJS will feature a Tai Kato retrospective, which is co-sponsored by the Japan Foundation. A list of the films appears below. For more information, visit CJS's website: www.ii.umich.edu/cjs/eventsprograms/filmseries.

Friday, June 8 "Tokirjiro of Kutsukake - Lone Yakuza" Directed by Tai Kato, 1966, 90 min. Screening Time: 7 p.m.

Saturday, June 9—Double Feature "The Red Peony Gambler: Flower Cards Match" Directed by Tai Kato, 1969, 98 min. Screening Time: 5 p.m.

"The Red Peony Gambler: Oryu Returns" Directed by Tai Kato, 1970, 100 min. Screening Time: 8 p.m.

Sunday, June 10—Double Feature "Brave Records of the Sanada Clan" Directed by Tai Kato, 1963, 90 min. Screening Time: 5 p.m.

"Blood of Revenge" Directed by Tai Kato, 1965, 91 min. Screening Time: 8 p.m.

All films are 35mm, in Japanese with English subtitles, and will be screened in Auditorium A, Angell Hall (435 South State St.). Patrons should enter the building through the doors between Mason and Haven Halls off the Diag. Screenings are free and open to the public.
