After the area spent most of the day Wednesday with temperatures in the mid-90s, Thursday dawns with the promise of more hot weather—potentially, the worst of the current heat wave.

The National Weather Service has issued both an excessive heat warning and an air quality alert, effective through this evening.

The forecast today calls for sunny to partly cloudy skies and a high temperature approaching 99 degrees, with a heat index of around 105. Expect high humidity, with winds of 15-25 mph.

There's a 10 percent chance for rain today. Tonight's low is forecast to be around 72 degrees.

After today, conditions are expected to ease up somewhat, with highs around 91 both Friday and Saturday and a 30 percent chance of rain each day.
