WEMU offering shuttles to Detroit Jazz Festival

By AnnArbor.com Staff

WEMU, Eastern Michigan University’s public radio station, and Golden Limousine in Ann Arbor are teaming up again this year to run shuttle buses from EMU to the free Detroit Jazz Festival over Labor Day weekend,

Festival goers can park free in Green Lot One, off Huron River Drive, on the EMU campus and ride round trip to the festival for $10.

Buses leave EMU at noon, 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4, leaving Detroit at 4, 7, 9 and 11 p.m.. On Monday, Sept. 5, buses will leave EMU at noon and 3 p.m., leaving Detroit at 5 and 8 p.m.

Riders who take the noon bus can stay all day or come back on any of the return trips. Drop offs and pickups are at Woodward and Jefferson, in the heart of the festival.

“This was a huge success last year,” WEMU General Manager Molly Motherwell said in a press release. “We had hundreds of riders over the three days. It’s convenient, environmentally responsible, and it made the difference for a lot of people who have always wanted to attend the festival but weren’t familiar with driving in Detroit or the parking situation at the festival. Gas prices and our recent budget cuts made it necessary to increase the price to $10 for the round trip this year but we think it’s still a very good deal.”

Advance registration is required to ensure that there are enough coaches to accommodate all riders. Details and registration are available at www.wemu.org or by calling 1-800-300-5151, ext. 1.
