WEMU's 'Groove Yard' marking 1,000 broadcasts with online offering of first show
Twenty-one years is a long time in radio, and 1,000 is a lot of shows.
At 1 p.m. Sunday, WEMU program host George Klein will host his 1,000th broadcast of "The Groove Yard," the station announced.
According to WEMU, Klein plans a special celebration of the milestone on Nov. 14. Meanwhile, though, the station will offer his very first show available for online listening at wemu.org, starting at 1 p.m. this Sunday and going for a week.
"The Groove Yard" generally focuses on early modern jazz from the 1950s and 60s. The program began on September 4, 1989.
WEMU, the public-radio station at Eastern Michigan University, broadcasts at 89.1-FM.

Good going, WEMU! No wonder Groove Yard has been on so long, along with WRCJ it's got the best jazz in the area! Thanks for keeping it cool and hot.
