"Conviction," the Hilary Swank movie that did a lot of its filming in this area last year, finally opened here Friday, as part of a staggered rollout across the country.

The film is based on the true story of Betty Anne Waters, who put herself through law school with the sole goal of exonerating her brother on a false murder conviction. It also stars Sam Rockwell and Minnie Driver.

Critical reaction to "Conviction" has been largely positive. But what did you think? And how does it compare to the other major movies shot in the area? Vote in our polls and/or leave a comment below:

And ... one more time, let's ask the question we've been asking after every opening of a made-in-Ann-Arbor flick:

Our dog actors loved sitting on Clea Duvall's lap! And our actor Abyssinian Grand Champion (retired show cat) Cheetara's Euro-Dissent les Zazous loved being in the opening scene!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it sure was fun having them film on our street. My dog loved getting to meet (and smooch) Minnie Driver.

The use of scripted witness testimony as depicted in this film is chilling. With techniques as demonstrated by Berry Scheck, it should be possible to get a good statistical understanding of how common this type of malfeasance is.
