Wolverine CuiZine blog explores local food from University of Michigan perspective

A group of University of Michigan students is taking a bite out of the local food scene with the launch of new "blogazine" Wolverine CuiZine. Seeing a need for a student-led food-oriented publication, Wolverine CuiZine seeks to inform and discuss local food, cooking, consumption and more.

Since launching in September, the blog has covered such topics as restaurant reviews, visits to the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, cooking tips for the college student, ideas for healthy living, advice on what to look for in a good kitchen knife, a rundown of who does what in the restaurant biz, how to live lactose-free, and alternatives to Halloween candy.

In addition to stories, the Wolverine CuiZine web site offers a recipes blog and a map linking to food places they've covered online.

Plus, the Wolverine CuiZine crew get together periodically for potlucks and to recruit staff members. Check out these photos from their potluck last month:

To see what they're up to next, check out the Wolverine CuiZine calendar and read the latest blog entries.

I love this project - I was reading a pre-cursor blog by one of the founders and I think it's great that this group is placing emphasis here. I'm glad to see them highlighted!

This blog is great! It is great to see AA.com featuring community start-ups like this!

  • There are aspects of our childhoods that we carry with us when we get older, and one of these for me has been the children’s book. It is children’s literature that often becomes our first foray into suspended belief and imagined landscapes. It is when we first question what it means to see the world and see how life can change suddenly at night.
