'Yes, and Back Again' offers mythic journey through storytelling, dance at Island Park

By Roger LeLievre

Ann Arbor’s Nightfire Dance Theater and Storydance will present the new work “Yes, and Back Again” Saturday at Island Park.

The event is described as “a mythic journey to four directions and center in dance and story, based in star-legends from around the world, with reference to the mid-October sky in the northern hemisphere.”

Audience members are encouraged to bring a favorite dream to focus on, whether personal or for the planet. Music will be by Curtis Glatter, multi-instrumentalist and percussionist. Open dancing will follow the performance.

Nightfire, founded in 1997 by Irena Nagler, is a performance troupe that combines dance with poetry, ceremony, music and improvisational ritual. Their improvisation blends influences from modern dance, Middle Eastern, African and Asian dance forms, ballet and jazz with music and spoken word.

“Yes, and Back Again” will be performed at Island Park, 1450 Island Drive, 8 p.m. Saturday, July 20 (rain date July 21). $5-$15 suggested donation. Details: 734-996-1772.
