"Youth in Revolt" — a comedy filmed in Ann Arbor as well as Royal Oak, Ferndale, and Detroit last summer — recently released its trailer online.

Starring Michael Cera ("Superbad"), Zach Galifianakis, Jean Smart, Justin Long, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard, Ray Liotta, and Portia Doubleday, the film is based on C. D. Payne's novel about a young man who will stop at nothing to win over the girl of his dreams. The Ann Arbor leg of the film's shoot included a car crash, which appears to be featured in the trailer. "Youth in Revolt"'s current release date is October 30.

I noticed that too, Jake. It felt both wonderful and heartbreaking to see Randall again.

On a poignant note, the trailer includes a couple close shots of Randall Godwin, an accomplished Michigan actor who died in the last year. He is the police officer at center of screen after the car hits the water. Nice to see him score a few frames in the trailer.

This is one of my favorite books, so I'm really looking forward to the movie! With the book so dense, I'm curious to see what makes the cut and what is removed/changed. At least with the R rating I assume that main character Nick's, um, quirky personality remains intact.
