Ypsilanti Symphony performing holiday pops on Sunday
“A whole lot of fun.” That’s how Adam C. Riccinto, music director of the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra, describes the orchestra’s Sunday afternoon holiday concert at Towsley Auditorium.
“We’re playing the “Nutcracker Suite No. 1,” he said in a phone call, “but it’s primarily a holiday pops concert.” Joining the orchestra are well-known jazz vocalist Susan Chastain, a regular with the Paul Keller Orchestra, and members of Split Dimensions, the top choir from Lincoln High School, directed by Karen Nevins. The choir, which performs everything from a cappella classical selections to choreographed pop, has a following that includes Governor Jennifer Granholm, for whose staff it has performed in Lansing. “We’ll do everything from choir and orchestra and choir by itself to Susan with orchestra and jazz trios with voice,” said Riccinto. “I think people will enjoy it.”
