 nsemble will present a dance drama of the pan-Islamic story of Amir Hamzah
 . This dance drama and the gamelan music that accompanies it are the work 
 of FX Widaryanto\, renowned choreographer and accomplished gamelan musicia
 n\, who is a visiting artist in residence at UM for academic year 2010-201
 1.Widaryanto’s interpretation of the age-old epic focuses on the brother
 ly love that Amir Hamzah\, uncle of the Prophet Mohammad\, feels for Allah
  and all mankind. That love flows like water\, and in Javanese culture\, w
 ater is a crucial symbol of love\, as it nurtures\, calms\, and animates a
 ll living things. <br />\n<br />\nThe concert and conference are sponsored
  by the Residential College\, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies\, LSA
 \, Center for World Performance Studies Artist Resident Program\, the Isla
 mic Studies Program\,\, Humanities Institute\, Center for Research on Lear
 ning and Teaching\, Office of Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs\, D
 epartment of Asian Languages and Cultures\, Rackham\, OVPR\, and the Inter
 national Institute\, the School of Music Theatre and Dance.  The gamelan i
 s owned by the Stearns Collection.
