Featuring nearly 60 works from various periods in her life, this Exhibition celebrates the long and distinguished career of Ann Arbor’s own Martha Keller. The works highlight her strength of vision as an artist, teacher, and writer.

This Exhibition highlights Martha’s ability to create “life” in the studio. Her work begins with a profound fascination with nature and working from observation she returns to the studio for gestation and composition work. Out of this artistic process her work builds toward the authentic, energetic and intuitive feeling of nature. The exhibition highlights the dynamic between the intensive study of nature, theoretical exploration, and the synthesis of creation that is illustrated within the various themes that populate Martha’s work.

The viewer is offered a glimpse into the artistic process as it weaves itself through a lifetime of drawing and painting. With an insatiable appetite for new information and inspiration, as well as openness to experience, Martha continues to grow and innovate. The Art Center has been fortunate enough to play a role in Martha’s journey for many years, and is honored to present this exploration of her 50-year-long career to the public.
