Ann Arbor's St. Andrew's Episcopal Church is inviting all area cyclists to its First Annual "Blessing of the Bikes," to be held this weekend.

The blessing ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday on the church lawn at 306 N. Division St. It's sponsored by the Episcopal Health Ministries and the cycling community of St. Andrew's.

The blessing event is happening now because May is National Bike Month as promoted by the League of American Bicyclists, Bike Week is May 17-21 and the national Ride of Silence  is at 7 p.m. May 19.

This ecumenical event is open to everyone who wishes to receive a blessing and participate in the blessing of others in the cycling community.

The event was spearheaded by a cadre of cycling enthusiasts in the St. Andrew's congregation who often bike to church, in the spirit of similar events held annually in Portland, Oregon and other major cycling cities.

For more information contact Ann Garvin at 517-335-9087, or the church office at 734-663-0518.
