Eastern Michigan University to have discussion on 'Islamophobia'
Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations - Michigan (CAIR-MI), will lead a discussion on "Islamophobia" on Oct. 13 at Eastern Michigan University.
The discussion will address topics including recent incidents of Qur'an burning and the Park 51 Community Center controversy, according to a statement from the group. The event is hosted by the Muslim Student Association at Eastern Michigan University, an organization dedicated to "empowering the on-campus Muslim community, as well as promote a well-balanced and comprehensive understanding of Islam as a complete, peaceful and just way of life."
The discussion will be filmed as part of a documentary on challenges facing Metro Detroit area Muslims to be aired in 2011.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Eastern Michigan Student Center, Room 310A, 900 Oakwood St. in Ypsilanti.
