Hearing from Gelek Rimpoche live and through new media
Gelek Rimpoche’s teachings this past weekend at Jewel Heart Ann Arbor happened through the wonders of technology and the big screen as we all enjoyed the positively immediate experience of live video webcasting from New York. In fact, Rimpoche’s warmth and wisdom are now available to individuals wherever they are - through live video subscription. Listening to Rimpoche teaching concepts such as the everlasting continuity of mind and methods to recognize the loving heart in every single being, we were impressed at the vivid transmission this technology makes possible.
This Wednesday, Rimpoche was interviewed by the Tibetan branch of Voice of America in Washington, D.C. He spoke about Buddhism in the West and Tibetans around the world were able to listen in. In fact, the Q and A period included questions from Tibet as well as Dharamsala and Delhi, India. There were more callers but not enough time. While Rimpoche has worked tirelessly to teach Tibetans in the West, it is so very touching to know that Tibetans across the globe have access to one of their most highly respected Lamas. Pretty amazing.
This Sunday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m., Rimpoche will be back in Ann Arbor for our Sunday morning programs, which include options of sitting meditation, White Tara guided meditation, a brief talk on Attachment, Appreciation and Love by Gelek Rimpoche and then a lovely Brazilian brunch ($12.50 - pay at door; can reserve space in advance by calling us at 734 994 3387). A quick description of Rimpoche’s talk is: Appreciation unravels the entanglement of attachment’s fear to reveal the true nature of love. Rimpoche often reminds us of the primary importance to respect and appreciate others and how it helps us move into a love that is less burdened with agendas. This will be a great food for thought as we think about our own valentine’s.
Upcoming guest speakers at Jewel Heart: March 12, 13 and 14, Lene Handberg of Unity in Duality; Thursday, March 18, well-known author B. Alan Wallace; and Monday, March 29, Geshe Michael Roach. More details to come.
Have a great week and perhaps we’ll see you on Sunday!
