Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:

• Cosmetic surgery patients who are older when they have surgery or who are taking medication for depression are more likely to be happy with the results of their surgery, a University of Michigan study found. However, CNN reported, researchers caution those with depression should consider undergoing therapy to manage their condition before undergoing surgery.

• Regularly eating processed meats like bacon, sausages, hot dogs and deli or luncheon meat can raise risk of heart disease and diabetes, researchers said Monday. Reported in Reuters, researchers believe the salt or chemicals used to process meats could be linked to the increased risk.

• Food companies are beginning to jump on the lower-salt bandwagon as doctors, consumer and advocacy groups - all the way up to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration - have ramped up a full-scale war against high sodium foods. Companies like Starbucks and Kraft are part of the new push among national food companies.
