Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:
Students in Michigan are largely missing out on summer nutrition programs, with fewer than one in six who receive free school meals getting them during the month of July, a new report says.
Reported by the Detroit Free Press, the Summer Food Service Program served more meals last summer than it did the previous year. But with increasing need in the state, experts say the meals are "crucial."
• Getting too much screen time can increase the chances a child or young adult will have attention problems, according to a new study reported in Business Week.
• The Fourth of July weekend has become a notorious one for underage drinking, according to a government report. The holiday brings nearly double the typical underage drinking-related visits to emergency rooms than a typical July day, USA Today reported.
• One of the newest fads sparked by pop star Lady Gaga might be dangerous for its followers' eyesight. Reported by the New York Times, young women have begun ordering contact lenses from overseas that make the pupil, and thus the eyes, appear larger after seeing a similar look in one of Gaga's music videos. But they could damage eyesight, doctors say.
