Taking Viagra could cause hearing loss, researchers say

Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:
• Researchers have found a link between taking Viagra and the development of long-term hearing loss, CNN reported. A study published in the Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery suports the side effect acknowledged by Viagra-maker Pfizer and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
• The World Health Organization is tackling the problem of binge and excessive alcohol use by supporting higher taxes and tighter marketing regulations on alcoholic beverages, Reuters reported. The organization estimates 2.5 million deaths a year are linked to alcohol use.
• A congressional committee is examining the fledgling industry of companies selling consumer genetic tests in the wake of delayed plans to release one of those tests through a nationwide drugstore chain. Pathway Genomics Corp. was set to begin selling that test last week at Walgreens before experts raised concerns about the test and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration questioned the legality of selling genetic tests, the Washington Post reported.
