Top 5 easy ways to take control of your nutrition
Don't let revamping your nutrition stress you out! Start with these easy five steps to clean up your diet.
1. Try a new vegetable! Branch out from potatoes, iceberg lettuce and onions, and try something new. You may surprise yourself and find something else you like.
2. Cover half of your plate with veggies. Veggies are not a side anymore; they should occupy more plate than your protein or starch.
3. Check serving sizes! By just glancing at a food label you may be deceived that a serving has just 200 calories, but make sure you check what the serving size is. Your one-cup serving could actually have 400 calories if the serving size was half a cup.
4. Add nuts instead of croutons to your salad. Nuts and seeds have some plant protein and polyunsaturated fat.
5. Think small. In restaurants, look for appetizers, sandwiches or desserts that are called ‘mini’ or ‘small.’ Think of these as normal and everything else as super-sized.
