Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:

• In the first attempt by a university to conduct mass genetic testing, incoming freshmen at the University of California, Berkeley will be asked to send a voluntary DNA samples for testing this summer. Reported by The New York Times, the measure is meant to offer students information about how well they can metabolize alcohol, lactose and folates.

• Pregnant women should avoid eating foods and drinks packaged in metal cans, according to a report released by a coalition of environmental groups, USA Today reported. According to the report, 92 percent of foods in cans are contaminated with the chemical used to line the cans called BPA, or bispenol A. The National Toxicology Program believes the chemical causes concern that "it could alter development of the brain, behavior and the prostate gland in children, before and after birth," USA Today reported.

• Parents worrying about their children's technology time stunting their social and psychological growth need not worry quite so much, the Los Angeles Times reported. Recent studies have shown adolescents who spend much of their time on social media sites and using other technology appear to be more well-adjusted and psychologically healthy than their peers, researchers say.
