Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:

• The U.S. government is on track to surpass the private sector in health spending by next year, federal actuaries are predicting.

• As many as 2 in every 5 cancers are preventable through lifestyle changes and infection prevention, according to a report from the International Union Against Cancer.

• Nearly half of all health care workers are believed to not wash their hands nearly as much as is required - but catching them and correcting the problem has always been the challenge. That is, until now. More hospitals test surveillance devices that can detect and directly contact workers who aren't, according to a report from National Public Radio.

• Over the past several months, the Star Tribune in Minneapolis took a comprehensive look at the ballooning demand for new kidneys and a system that can't provide them, offering big opportunities for an international black market.
