Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:

• There's a psychology behind what gets people revved up and mad about the suggestion of a "soda tax." "People simply hate being told what not to do," according to a Los Angeles Times blog post.

• The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced a pledge to spend $1.5 billion over five years on maternal and child health, signaling a new focus for the foundation, the Wall Street Journal reported.

• Having post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, appears to increase the chances a person will suffer from dementia, Reuters reported.

How much money does the government need? Let's talk about removing taxes instead of adding more!

I'd just be worried that at first "sugar" POP would be taxed, then if there's enough of a switch over to non high fructose corn syrup drinks, well then they'll just have to tax those too.

I agree with Adam. Most sodas and sweet drinks are made with cheap corn sweetener. Eliminating federal farm subsidies of corn would go a long way to increasing the price of the drinks, thereby reducing consumption.

It would be a bad ideal for a soda tax, because it could lead us down a slippy road,Then what next a few people get it in to their head that having other things are bad for you? so we need to tax that too. It really comes down to one's own personal choices good or bad and be an adult to except the decision that you make
