Why you might want to kick the high heels (at least a few times a week)
Here's a look at some of the top health news being talked about around the U.S. and the world today:
• Watch out fashionistas. You might like the way those stilettos look, but scientists are offering a new warning about the pain the shoes can level, CNN reported. Wearing heels more than five days a week can shrink the calf muscles to the heel by 22 percent and make it painful to switch back to flats.
• New research is finding children conceived using in vitro fertilization appear to be at higher risk for developing cancer. This comes with a caveat, reports Time - it's not that these children aren't typically as healthy as those conceived "the old fashioned way." But these children are more likely to have a low birth weight linked to increased risk for other conditions.
• There is an HIV epidemic in some of America's poorest cities, according to a government report released Monday. Reported by Reuters, the report said poverty was the single most important factor linked to HIV among heterosexuals.
