So you have your standard checklist for your tailgate. Now is the time to take it up a notch with a big game this weekend by adding some crafty touches. Here are few ideas to try.

For some simple fun, buy some face or body paint, if it's that kind of crowd. Available at party supply stores or Fantasy Attic. Draw the classic "M" on the cheek or write "Go Blue!" or "Hail!"

For the buffet, grab a large roll of paper (available at The Scrap Box for a few dollars) or Chalkcloth (specially treated vinyl) makes a fun tablecloth. Both of these can be written on, so load your guests up with some chalk or markers to write messages. You can start it off with labeling each dish on the buffet or writing cheers for your team or against the other if you have a mixed crowd.

To entertain everyone and pump up the rivalry with visiting fans, bring out the yard games. There are plenty of online instructions to create your own ladder golf game (basically a bunch of PVC pipe cut down to size), washer toss or cornhole game.

All involve a simple trip to your local hardware store, but the best part is that with a can of spray paint or two, you can customize and make it your own. You can also take the basic instructions and build it bigger or customize with additional challenges.

These projects definitely take a little time and basic carpentry skills. When you are purchasing the supplies, talk to the folks at the store. They will usually cut down wood to size, if asked, for a small fee, and that will make these projects go together much quicker.
