Environment Report features Ann Arbor homeowner and founder of Greenovation TV

By Pam Stout

Michigan Radio's Environment Report has been following Matt Grocoff, founder of Internet resource Greenovation TV, on his quest to make his 110-year old Ann Arbor home the oldest net-zero energy house in America. The goal is to make the house use no more energy than it produces.

Reporter Lester Graham chronicles Grocoff's experience facing the Ann Arbor Historic District Commission to secure approval for solar panels on the roof of his house. Grocoff was relieved to find the commissioners receptive to the environmentally-friendly project, in contrast to some historic commissions in other municipalities.

Grocoff is quoted praising the Historic Commission's forward thinking. "It's a great thing here in Ann Arbor that we've got this progressive commission that's moving forward, and frankly, I think they're going to be setting an example for the rest of the country on this."
