Sneak preview of more 2010 Tour of Remodeled Homes

By NARI of Southeast Michigan, a chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry

This article continues our sneak preview of the NARI's seventh annual Tour of Remodeled Homes, May 15 and 16. Tons of information is available on the NARI Web site, including a map of locations. Watch this column over the next few weeks to learn more about other innovative remodeling projects in the area!

Kitchen Remodel

Giraffe Design Build has two projects on the tour this year.

Their first is a kitchen remodel located on Holyoke Lane. In a cosmopolitan blending of the sleek coolness of brushed stainless appliances and fittings, with the vibrant warmth of espresso toned blackwalnut cabinetry and cappuccino colored granite counters, Giraffe transformed a tired and outdated space into a fresh, fun, light filled and very user friendly “moderne” reinvention of Kitchen.

Come see and experience for yourself!

Garage, Vestibule and Workshop Addition

Next by Giraffe is a garage, vestibule and workshop addition on Barton Shore Drive. Built in the 1950s and featured in several national publications as a wonderful example of post-war modernism, its “primitive” stone and concrete walls, muted palette of dark wood siding and large expanses of glass rise gracefully from the hillside to embrace the views across Barton Pond.

The addition, featuring a new two car garage, a new front entry and mudroom and a wonderful home woodworking studio, was designed, carefully crafted and meticulously woven into the style and fabric of the original house by the collaborative efforts of H. Scott Diehls, AIA and Giraffe Design Build L.L.C.

Enjoy!

This 1950s house was entirely remodeled inside and out by KLA Development to become a beautiful yet practical home with finishes and features for today’s lifestyles. Formerly a 1,250-square-foot house which suffered decades of neglect, this 1,700 square foot home now features three bedrooms, two and a half baths, refurbished hardwood floors, granite counter tops, cherry cabinetry, a scullery and a two-car garage.

On Ann Arbor’s Old West Side near Hunt Park, with spectacular views of downtown, this compact redesign by Tim Vachon added square footage while retaining a yard, and even created a cozy side terrace. Creative, conscientious and cost-effective, KLA’s unique package of skills and talents did it again. At under $125 a square foot, this total makeover will make you realize that upgrading your home is within reach.
