Before & after: Vintage chair, striped material posed a makeover challenge

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine asked me to give her vintage chair a makeover. I, of course, was happy to help her out. She wanted an antique gold finish and picked out the fabric.

She wanted the flower pattern on the front and stripes on the back.

First I took all of the old upholstery off. I primed and painted with Krylon 18kt Gold. Once the paint had dried I dry brushed over the chair with Valspar's antiquing glaze, and sealed with Johnson's Paste Wax.

The pleats on this chair were definitely a challenge. I ended up making an entirely new back panel, using the old upholstery as a guide. Then I re-stuffed it with new fill. This was, by far, my most ambitious project

There were a few moments when I thought this was not going to happen. And may I say stripes may be the most unforgiving pattern ever. But everything worked out in the end.
