Welcome to Garden Faerie's Musings

Monica Milla | Contributor
I'll chat about what's happening in my garden, provide tips, share photos, reminisce about spectacular successes and failures and plan for next season. I hope you'll share your experiences as well (I'll pour the lemonade!).
You may remember me from my Full Bloom blog at MLive.com. I'm happy to be blogging for Ann Arborites again.
My gardening passion started many years ago with one innocent looking tomato plant (which I now refer to as the "gateway plant") in a container on my deck, and blossomed (literally and figuratively) into much, much more.
I love the hands-on aspect of gardening and learning by doing. (I've already made a lot of mistakes, so you don't have to!) I love seeing things grow and the patience it teaches. I love all kinds of growing things, whether flowers, trees, or shrubs. I love the peace I feel when lost in my thoughts while gardening (I like to call this the garden HIGH (Happy Idyllic Gardening Headspace).
You see, gardening doesn't just bring out the best in plants or the landscape, it brings out the best in people. Through it, I've been able to become a master gardener volunteer, garden speaker, garden coach, and gardener for hire. I've met so many interesting, knowledgeable, and generous people, and I've been able to do things I never would have thought I could do, let alone enjoy (like public speaking!).
Gardening is a rewarding personal journey, which I look forward to sharing with you.
I hope to make this blog an online gardening community, so please sign up for an account here so you can leave comments. Looking forward to chatting with you!

Hi Monica, Thanks for the great Garden Faerie blog. I wanted to share my favorite "gateway plant" it is called the TickleMe Plant. I grow them with my students and in Faerie Gardens. A TickleMe Plant is the only plant that will close its leaves and lower its branches when you tickle it. It even sleeps at night. I thought that your readers would enjoy growing them. You can find more information, kits to grow them and see the plant in action at www.ticklemeplant.com
