The most romantic places in Washtenaw County

Time well spent with our loved ones encompasses a lot of things, but for many people, the location is a crucial part of making it special.

Last week, we asked our readers where they like to spend quality time with their main squeeze.

For some, it’s a favorite restaurant. Others find that simple surroundings suit them just fine, like a park. Some unexpected places also found their way onto our "most romantic places in Washtenaw County" map that we’ve created from reader suggestions.

The Nichols Arboretum and Cedar Bend Nature Area topped the list.

Restaurants including The Melting Pot were submitted as romantic dining spots. Reader Rebecca Marcus mentioned Cafe Zola as well.

"Low-lit, with a tea-light candle on each table, this restaurant creates an intimate atmosphere with a flair," she said of the restaurant.

"Their banana Nutella crepe complete with whipped creme, ice cream and chocolate sauce is delightfully sinful -- even more so when shared! This place is not-to-be-missed for a romantic evening on the town!"

For a historical and romantic setting, reader Wendy Mead suggested the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. The museum features a room of Roman murals replicated years ago by a famous Italian artist. The paintings are those of a villa near Pompeii known as the Villa of Mysteries.

"Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not, it is worth spending a few minutes at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology to ponder the mystery of love in this amazing room," Mead wrote on her blog.

Since restaurants are being mentioned I'd vote for a candle lit both at The Earl, nothing against The Melting Pot but for me it's too much cooking participation.

Once you share where the most romantic place is in Ann Arbor, it won't be romantic anymore!

Unfortunately, that's not the actual location of veterans memorial park. For some reason I don't think the middle of Jackson Ave would be very romantic.

Funny that the Law Quad didn't make it, since everybody and her brother in law seems to go there for wedding photos.

The Fleetwood Diner appears on the map (although it's not mentioned in the article). At least someone has a sense of humor around here!

The most romantic place in Washtenaw County is anywhere with the one you love. However, front Seat of a car at 16 in the sixties with Van Morrison's Moon Dance on the radio parked at Cedar Bend. 2nd place Delhi park past the canoe pick up to the end of the road fishing under the bridge and thirdly the balcony of the Michigan Theater sharing popcorn and watching a great movie. Happy Valentine's Day Ann Arbor

Don't you think the Cedar Bend mark should be a little further south where you can park your car?

The Melting Pot? Would someone please explain the romantic appeal of a cramped, labyrinthine chain restaurant that charges you a premium to cook your own tiny overpriced morsels of food?

Romance is where you find it.

Well, Culvers isn't here yet to tke this spot from The Melting Pot, but it isn't going to be in Ann Arbour proper anyhow. The winner should have clearly been the Rathskellar after a half a bottle of Jagermeister.
