Time well spent with our loved ones encompasses a lot of things, but for many people, the location is a crucial part of making it special.

Last week, we asked our readers where they like to spend quality time with their main squeeze.

For some, it’s a favorite restaurant. Others find that simple surroundings suit them just fine, like a park. Some unexpected places also found their way onto our "most romantic places in Washtenaw County" map that we’ve created from reader suggestions.

The Nichols Arboretum and Cedar Bend Nature Area topped the list.

Restaurants including The Melting Pot were submitted as romantic dining spots. Reader Rebecca Marcus mentioned Cafe Zola as well.

"Low-lit, with a tea-light candle on each table, this restaurant creates an intimate atmosphere with a flair," she said of the restaurant.

"Their banana Nutella crepe complete with whipped creme, ice cream and chocolate sauce is delightfully sinful -- even more so when shared! This place is not-to-be-missed for a romantic evening on the town!"

For a historical and romantic setting, reader Wendy Mead suggested the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. The museum features a room of Roman murals replicated years ago by a famous Italian artist. The paintings are those of a villa near Pompeii known as the Villa of Mysteries.

"Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not, it is worth spending a few minutes at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology to ponder the mystery of love in this amazing room," Mead wrote on her blog.
