Michigan basketball ranked No. 3 nationally in preview magazine's preseason poll
ANN ARBOR -- Expectations for the 2012-13 Michigan basketball team have been high since April.
But not this high.
Lindy's Sports has released its annual college basketball preview, and it ranks the Wolverines as the No. 3 team in the country.
Michigan, who returns the backcourt tandem of Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., is ranked behind only No. 1 Louisville and No. 2 Indiana.
After the Wolverines at No. 3 comes North Carolina State at No. 4 and defending national champion Kentucky at No. 5. Big Ten foe Ohio State comes in at No. 6.
Michigan State is not ranked in the publication's top 10, although MSU guard Branden Dawson is joined by Burke on one regional cover of the magazine.
Lindy's isn't the only publication to heap high praise on the 2012-13 Wolverines, who will be bolstered by a freshman recruiting class of five-star forward Glenn Robinson III, four-star power forward Mitch McGary and four-star guard Nik Stauskas.
The last time Michigan started a season as a top five team was 1993-94, when the Wolverines -- led by Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson -- started the season ranked No. 5.
