Numbers: Denard Robinson sets Michigan interception record, and career yardage mark in same game
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- When it comes to Denard Robinson, the Michigan football team routinely has to take the good right along with the bad.
And Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium, Robinson's historic day prove that perhaps more than ever before.
The senior quarterback set two major Michigan records in one game: One for futility, the other for production.
A few Robinson and Michigan-related numbers of note from the Wolverines' 13-6 loss at Notre Dame.
With four picks Saturday, Robinson becomes Michigan's career leader with 38 interceptions, moving by career passing yards leader Chad Henne for first place all-time in a rather unceremonious category. The four interceptions were a career-high, and considering he's tossed at least one pick in 14 of his last 17 games, Robinson may put some serious distance between himself and second place here.
While Robinson set one Michigan record for career futility, he set another for career production. Robinson moved in front of Henne for first place on Michigan's all-time career yards from scrimmage list with 228 combined yards Saturday. Just like the interceptions mark, Robinson has plenty of time to create some serious separation in this category, too.
Robinson became the fourth Michigan quarterback to throw four interceptions in one game. Joining John Navarre, John Wangler and former teammate Tate Forcier. The Michigan record for picks in a game belongs to Demetrius Brown, who threw seven against Michigan State in 1987.
Robinson doubled his season interception total in one game Saturday, and now is more than halfway to passing the 15 picks he threw last season. At this rate, Robinson will toss 24 picks through a 12-game season.
Michigan out-gained Notre Dame by 60 yards Saturday, holding a 299-239 edge in total offense.
Michigan held the ball nearly seven more minutes than Notre Dame.
Michigan went 2-for-5 on scoring chances in the red zone, 0-for-5 on red zone touchdown conversions. Michigan also turned the ball over inside the Notre Dame 20 twice.
Years since Notre Dame began a season 4-0. The Irish also have wins over top 20 teams in consecutive weeks for the first time since 2002.
Michigan has failed to score at least seven points against Notre Dame just one time in the rivalry's history -- which dates back to 1887. The Wolverines fell to Notre Dame 11-3 in 1909.
