Live blog: No. 3 Michigan gets redemption against Arkansas 80-67
ANN ARBOR --
FINAL SCORE: Arkansas 67, Michigan 80
Michigan rides a hot first half and staves off an early second-half run by the Razorbacks to remain undefeated at 9-0. Five players for UM scored in double figures. Robinson III led the Wolverines with 17 points.
-- Arkansas 57, Michigan 66 (4:56)
The Arkansas bench has outscored the Michigan bench 24-7 today. Junior Rickey Scott (G) has 10 of them. Having said that, Horford's play off the bench in the second half has been key as Michigan extends their lead to 9.
-- Arkansas 55, Michigan 56 (9:00)
Michigan started the second half shooting 4-16 after a red hot first half.
-- Arkansas 45, Michigan 47 (12:46)
Game could get real interesting for Michigan as the field goal shooting evens out. Wolverines (42 percent), Razorbacks (43 percent) and Arkansas has cut the 10-point halftime lead to just 2 points.
HALFTIME: Arkansas 32, Michigan 42
Extremely balanced scoring and a 50 percent shooting percentage guided the Wolverines to a 10-point halftime lead over the Razorbacks. Morgan had his best half of the season with 10 pts (4-5) and 5 rebounds. Morgan did go to the bench after picking up his second foul, so it will be critical for him to stay out of early second half foul trouble if UM hopes to keep their double-digit lead. And while the Wolverines torched the Arkansas defense for 42 first half points, they will have to step up their defense on the perimeter and cut down on turnovers if they want to keep the Razorbacks from making this a tight game.
Scoring -- Morgan (10), Robinson III (10), Hardaway (8)
Rebounding -- Hardaway (6), Morgan (5), Robinson III (4)
Assists -- Burke (4)
-- Arkansas 18, Michigan 30 (7:12)
Michigan shooting lights out. Wolverines are 12-20 (60 percent) including 4-8 (50 percent) from 3-pt range. Robinson III hasn't missed yet (3-3) and Morgan is 4-5.
-- Arkansas 11, Michigan 20 (10:59)
Both teams shooting hot early (ARK 50 percent, UM 57.1 percent), but intensified defense and quicker transition led to an 8-0 run by the Wolverines. Key play during the run: A steal by Horford leading to a throw-down by Robinson III.
-- Arkansas 11, Michigan 14 (13:24)
Michigan made a couple of treys early in the game (1 from Burke, 1 from Robinson III), but the biggest statement made out of the gates was by junior Jordan Morgan. Morgan has shown energy and physical-dominance in the paint, attacking the glass hard and keeping two possessions alive after long-range misses by Burke and Hardaway. Morgan set the tone with two FGs, two rebounds and a couple FTs in just 3:48 before being relieved by freshman Mitch McGary.
RAZORBACKS: Rashad Madden (G), Mardracus Wade (G), BJ Young (G), Hunter Mickelson (F), Marshawn Powell (F)
WOLVERINES: Trey Burke (G), Glenn Robinson III (G), Nik Stauskas (G), Tim Hardaway Jr. (G), Jordan Morgan (F)
The Michigan Wolverines are a perfect 8-0 this season, but there's still a loss on their minds. Last January's trip to Fayetteville was one Trey Burke buzzer beater away from a gutsy comeback.
The third-ranked Wolverines get a shot at redemption today when they host Arkansas (noon, CBS).
